The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has donated 140,468 bags of food items to the Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) of Boko Haram in Borno and Yobe States.

In his remarks at the flag-off of the distribution of food items in Teacher Village Displaced Camp, Borno,  Engr. Mustapha Maihaja, Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said 125,317 baskets of food items would be distributed by the Centre to 33,343 households in designated camps and communities in Borno State in the next four months.
Maihaja commended the efforts of the Minister of Defence, Brig. Gen. Mansur Dan Ali who facilitated the food assistance to the North East.

A statement on Thursday by Mr. Sani Datti, NEMA’s Head of Media and Public Relations, explained that a total of 125,372 bags of 25kg of rice and beans were distributed.
Other food items distributed through the combined efforts of NEMA, SEMA and critical stakeholders using voucher system, include 62,686 cartons of condiments and each contains 4kg of semovita, two litres of vegetable oil, 29 sachets of tomatoes, 1 kg of salt and two sachets of seasoning.

Datti explained that each household of six persons would receive a food basket of 59.8kg for the period of one month.

While in Yobe State, he said, a total of 15,096 bags of 25 kg of rice and beans with 7,7548 condiments were distributed to 3,774 households who have been identified to benefit from the gesture, as a total of food baskets to be distributed was put at 225685.

Leader of the team and Assistant Director of Emergency Aid and Relief Centre, Nasser Alsubaie, said the donation would benefit over 840,000 IDPs in the North East, adding that the donation was a testimony of the humanitarian commitment of the Centre.

It would be recalled that early this year that Saudi Arabia had pledged to donate $10m for capacity building of NEMA staff and food assistance to the IDPs in various camps across the country.
