California in turmoil as wildfires kill 9, destroy communities, and displace thousands.
It has been reported that an unprecedented ravaging wildfire on Thursday engulfed a town in Northern California. According to reports, the inferno displaced thousands of residents who were seen scampering helter-skelter for safety as they race to escape on roads which never helped matters, as visibility was blurred by thick smoke which darkened the day light. An eye-witness account stated that thousands of buildings and properties were destroyed by the raging inferno.
Another to a victim, Mark Boss, a police officer: “We were surrounded by fire, we were driving through fire on each side of the road,”
From Paradise, where over 25,000 residents had to evacuate, awe-inspiring accounts of daring rescue and assistance filled the air. Homes, business buildings, schools and many other structures were dishearteningly watched go up in flames.
Official reports have it that about 9 persons were found dead in vehicles engulfed by the fire.
According to information received, the Northern California’s Paradise inferno occurred shortly after daybreak in a rural area, and by nightfall, more than 75 square kilometres had been razed down, to the extent that fire officials were no match for the inferno.
Officials are still unable to provide exact figure of victims and the wounded. It has been described as a serious situation with many abandoning their cars and vehicles on the road to flee for safety.
