Chief Earnest Shonekan, former head of Interim Government was yestrrday reported dead. He was aged 82.
But in a swift reaction, the Ogun State Government has debunked the claim and clarified that the elder statesman is alive, hale and hearty.
Chief Shonekan, former boss of UAC, was appointed to head the Interim Government by former President Ibrahim Babangida, after the later had stepped aside on the 26th of August, 1993.
Chief Shonekan remained in office until the 17th of November, 1993, when he was removed in a palace coup by the late General Sani Abacha.
One of the major decisions Shonekan took that stood beyond his short administration was the appointment of Dr Paul Ogwuma as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Chief Shonekan has always remained active in national life, and a committed and available member of the National Council of State.
