The Katsina State police command has smashed syndicate of kidnappers and armed robbers on wanted list for several criminal cases.
Briefing the press in Katsina on Thursday, over recent efforts at curbing criminal activities in the area and continue to deliver on its mandate of protecting the lives and property of the people, Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Wakili, said that his men acted on a tip-off which led to the arrest of some members of the criminal gang.
According to the Commissioner, “on September 4, 2018, based on a tip off, the Katsina State Command in collaboration with the IGP Monitoring and Striking Unit, succeeded in smashing a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping gang who migrated from Dansadau local government area of Zamfara state, to Unguwar Goga village, in Faskari local government of Katsina state.”
“The team raided their hideout at Tafoki village, Faskari local government of Katsina state and arrested the suspects who confessed to have kidnapped one Rabo Alhaji Shagari of Faskari and extorted the sum of N1 one million from his relations as a ransom for his release.
In a similar development, the Commissioner said that the police also arrested another set of criminals who had terrorized the people in parts of Danmusa, Safana and Dutsinma local government areas.
Specifically, Wakili said, “on August 26, 2018, they invaded Hawan Dan-Maigyda village, along Kankara-Dutsinama road, Danmusa local government area of Katsina state and shot two persons.
“However, two of their members, one Horon Anchau and one Mohammed Bello alias Kiri Gorere (all in prison custody) were arrested in connection with the crime and one AK 47 rifle was recovered in their possession in the course of investigations.
“The suspects have confesed to the crime and investigation is ongoing with a view to arresting other members of this notorious group.”
Wakili said that the police equally arrested a number of other suspects with a total of 62 sealed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp.”
